HTH's short-term plans cover accident and sickness on a primary basis with a selectable deductible, and its network bills many international providers directly so a traveler isn't stuck fronting cash at check-in. The company has been in this specific market for over two decades and carries an A (Excellent) rating from AM Best, a reasonable proxy for whether the insurer will still be around and paying claims when you need it.
Pre-existing conditions aren't covered on the standard short-term plans, and adventure activities need to be checked against the exclusion list rather than assumed included. Where HTH earns its keep is the day-to-day experience of being sick abroad: the mPassport tool cuts out a lot of the guesswork in finding a competent, English-speaking doctor in a country you don't know well, and the claims team coordinates directly with hospitals rather than leaving that legwork to the traveler.
