How a business gets listed

A listing is a real insurer, plan brand, broker, comparison portal or assistance membership, checked on its own website before it is added. Its pages have to name who is responsible for the cover: a license, an underwriter, a regulator, or, for a membership, the company that runs it and what it provides. It also has to be something a US traveler can buy. One business gets one entry: a company with several country sites or plan domains is listed once.

Category membership needs evidence. A business joins Student and Visa Insurance because its pages describe a plan for students or visa holders, and joins Pre-Existing Conditions because its pages state a rule for them. We do not infer those things from a plan name.

How the write-ups are written

Every write-up is built from the business's own published pages: plan pages, benefit tables, FAQs, legal notices and license pages. A premium, limit, deductible, age rule or pre-existing condition term appears only when those pages state it, and it is attributed to them. We have not bought these plans or filed claims under them, and the write-ups do not pretend otherwise.

On a medical and money product we take terms only from the seller, so a plan is listed once its own pages set them out. A few well-known names, among them GeoBlue and John Hancock Travel, are not listed for that reason, and neither is a seller whose pages name no license, underwriter or regulator.

How listings are ordered

Within a category, the established insurers and the plans most relevant to that kind of trip come first. Star ratings, where shown, come from visitors.

Businesses are not charged to be listed. An outbound link may be an affiliate link, which means we may earn a commission if you buy after clicking. That does not change which businesses are listed or what their write-ups say.

Suggestions and corrections

If a business is missing, you can suggest it through the submission form. If a listing has a fact wrong, or a plan's terms have changed, send a note through the contact form. It is the only way to reach us.
