Travelex builds its plans around trip protection first, medical coverage second, which suits an older traveler who has usually prepaid more for a trip (a cruise, an escorted tour, a multi-generational family vacation) and cares as much about not losing that money as about the medical maximum. The Select plan covers pre-existing conditions if purchased within about 14 days of the first trip payment, and cancel for any reason can be added for extra premium on qualifying plans, letting a traveler back out for a reason the standard list doesn't cover.

Medical coverage is secondary to Medicare or any supplemental insurance a traveler holds, so it functions best as a backstop for the gaps Medicare leaves once you're outside the country rather than a primary policy. There's no separate senior-specific underwriting track or upper age cutoff to deal with, and the company has a long enough track record in this market that reviews and claims history are easy to check before buying. It's a solid option for an older traveler whose main worry is protecting a big prepaid trip rather than needing high medical limits.
