What Care Concept AG is

Care Concept AG is a German plan brand and multi-insurer intermediary. It designs, names and sells a family of international health insurance products, Care Expat World, Care Travel, Care Travel PLUS, Care Amerika / Care Travel USA and Care China Classic among them, while separate companies carry the underwriting risk behind each one. Its own impressum, headed "Information according to § 15 Versicherungsvermittlerordnung Name: Care Concept ® AG," says "We are active as multiple representatives according to § 34 d I GewO" (the German trade-code rule it names for its status as an intermediary), and it states directly, "We offer advice on the insurance products we broke," meaning it brokers rather than underwrites. Care Expat World's own product page confirms this structure by naming a carrier: "Your insurer is the Barmenia Krankenversicherung AG." Care China Classic names a different one, "Insurer Advigon Versicherung AG" of Vaduz, Liechtenstein. A separate distance selling disclosure on the same domain is issued in the name of "HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung AG (legal form: public limited company)," and the impressum discloses a financial link between the two companies: "HanseMerkur Krankenversicherung auf Gegenseitigkeit indirectly holds more than ten percent of the voting rights and capital of Care Concept® AG." A buyer going through Care Concept AG is therefore buying a policy carried by whichever named insurer sits behind that specific product, not by Care Concept itself. The company profile page adds that it has "been working in the international health insurance field for 27 years (since 1999)" and "celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2024," and it says it can serve customers "in 19 different languages," listing German, English, Chinese, Turkish, Spanish, French, Russian, Polish, Serbo-Croat, Arabian, Mongolian and Portuguese by name.

What it covers

Care Expat World, the product aimed at long-term expats, emigrants and digital nomads, splits cover into three geographic zones. The page defines "Country Zone 1: Worldwide excluding China, Singapore and USA," "Country Zone 2: Worldwide including China and Singapore, excluding USA" and "Country Zone 3: Worldwide including China, Singapore and USA," and adds that anyone on Zone 1 or Zone 2 still gets "emergency coverage for up to 42 days per trip in the countries of the respective higher country zones." Three price tiers are listed: "Care Expat World Basic starting at 40.00 € / Month," "Care Expat World Comfort starting at 65.00 € / Month" and "Care Expat World Premium starting at 85.00 € / Month." The page advertises "No annual maximum benefit limits" and "Free choice of doctor, no network restrictions," and it lists a selectable deductible among its advantages without printing the euro figures a buyer would choose between. Stays back in the policyholder's home country are covered "up to 180 days per year." Further down the same page, a comparison table lists "Inpatient psychotherapy until 42 Days," a pregnancy and childbirth "Waiting period: 10 months," and "Cancer treatment € 50,000.00 € 100,000.00," with "Follow-up treatment 14 Days 21 Days 28 Days." Where the table prints three values they run in the column order Basic, Comfort, Premium: follow-up treatment "14 Days 21 Days 28 Days," hospice care "21 Days 42 Days 56 Days," and rescue costs after an accident of "€ 5,000.00," "€ 10,000.00" and "€ 15,000.00." Home-country cover is "180 Days" on all three. The table also lists a "24/7-Emergency number," says "Preventive care, dental treatments and vaccinations do not count toward the deductible," and puts dentures and orthodontics "up to age 20" behind the same 10-month wait, at "60% max. € 8,000.00 per CY" or "80% max. € 10,000.00 per CY" depending on tier. The two-value cancer row leaves its tiers unassigned in the table. For Care Amerika / Care Travel USA, cover "from 63.00 €/Month" includes "Inpatient treatment, including private doctor," ambulance transport to hospital, a "Companion in hospital for children up to the age of 12" and a "Travel allowance for relatives in the event of inpatient stays of 9 days or more." Care China Classic, for Chinese nationals staying in Germany and nearby countries, lists "Transfer in case of death/funeral costs up to EUR 25,000.00," dental treatment "100% up to 300 EUR," dental prosthesis cover "50% up to max. 500.00 EUR per insurance year (after waiting period)," a pregnancy benefit after an "8 month waiting period" and a "Deductible per insured event 25 €."

Who can buy it and how the purchase works

Care Expat World can be taken out "up to the age of 65," and the same page adds that this holds "even if you are already living abroad," stating separately that "No fixed place of residence" is required. Care Amerika / Care Travel USA is open to people whose registered address is in Germany at the time of applying, "between 0 and 74 years old," for stays of "between one and 18 months." The page excludes "Competitive athletes, persons who are permanently in need of care and illegal residents." Buyers who apply within "31 days after leaving Germany" face no extra requirement; wait longer and "you must provide evidence of prior insurance for this period," and without it "a waiting period of 31 days will apply." Anyone already abroad "for six months or more before the start of the insurance" can no longer take out the plan. Care China Classic caps eligibility at "Maximum age: 64 years," with a "Minimum term of insurance: 3 months" and a "Maximum insurance period: 5 years (incl. renewals)," starting "at 60 € / Month." The homepage also lists Care Travel, for stays "of up to 18 months," and Care Travel PLUS, for stays "of up to 5 years," both stated to have "no deductible and no health-related questionnaire." A separate DAK 120 guarantee plan, tied to German statutory cover through DAK-Gesundheit, offers "a premium of €120 once a year, effectively saving €10 per month," on condition that the member stays enrolled "for three years, unless you return to your home country before then."

Claims and service

The company profile says Care Concept handles its products "from market research to the settlement of claims," so claims go to Care Concept rather than straight to the insurer. The service pages route claims through the InvoiceApp and the My Care Concept customer portal, where members "Submit medical bills and reimbursement claims," and list a "24/7-Emergency number for medical emergencies." The insurers behind the products carry no financial-strength rating on these pages, and the Care Expat World page gives no euro amounts for its selectable deductible.

Who it suits

Because Care Concept AG works as a multi-insurer intermediary rather than a single carrier, it suits someone who wants one German-based point of contact across several different products, whether that reader is a long-term expat, a digital nomad, a US-bound traveler, a Chinese national moving to Europe or a language-school student, rather than shopping each underwriter separately. It is less suited to someone who wants to compare deductible amounts before applying, since the Care Expat World page names the option without the figures, or who needs a firm answer on a pre-existing condition before applying, since the page promises only individual assessment. It also does not fit someone who has already spent more than six months outside Germany and wants the Care Amerika product, or someone over 65 looking at Care Expat World, since both fall outside the eligibility the pages state.
