The core Medjet benefit activates once a member is hospitalized more than 150 miles from home and stable enough to be moved: rather than the limited "nearest adequate facility" evacuation most travel insurance evacuation clauses provide, Medjet arranges transport to a hospital the member actually picks, often meaning home turf with their own doctors. That distinction, transport to a facility of choice versus the nearest one, is the entire reason this membership exists alongside a regular travel medical policy rather than instead of one.

Membership is sold annually or for a single trip, with no medical underwriting, no exclusion for pre-existing conditions, and no adventure sports carve-out, since it's a repatriation service rather than an insurance product. It doesn't cover the underlying medical bills themselves, that's what a travel medical or health insurance plan is for. Worth noting directly: Medjet (medjetassist.com) is a separate company from the similarly named AirMed International, and it's easy to mix the two up when comparing options.
